February 2012 – Newsletter

This is our Pre-Season Newletter for the Spring 2012 Season.

With warmer than usual temperatures over the last months, neighborhood soccer is being played…even on the occasional, but expected, snowy days! Our 2012 spring season is coming up, so mark your calendars with some key dates, also found at

  1. Parents & Players:
    • PreSeason: Now through March 24
      • Fall-only players who want to continue to play in the Spring season, can now do so at a lower cost, but you need to send in your payment NOW to remain on your team! (We have other registrants who are awaiting placement.)
      • NEW players who wish to register for Spring only, can do so via Please see details at our website:
    • Season: March 24, 9am is Field Day! ALL JCYSL families are welcomed to come and help clean and prepare (set goals, nets, paint) our fields for spring practices and games.
      • First game day: March 31.  ALL Spring Games are in Charles Town (Jefferson Avenue).  Last game day: June 2.  As always, specific game schedules will be available on when ready. Parents can also ask their Team Parent to use AYSO’s Shutterfly site to communicate schedules!
    • Summer
      • The annual AYSO (UK) Soccer Camp will be June 11-15. Save $25 when you register before the end of February.

  2. Coaches can get new/updated rosters at the Spring Coaches Meeting: March 20, 7pm.
    Parents: expect to hear from coaches soon after!
  • Intermediate (U-16) Coach March 9-10. Contact David Simmons: (
  1. Referees: Spring Referee meeting will be Tuesday, March 27
  • Intermediate Referee Class March 24 (for BASIC Referees that are the age of 14 and older).
    Contact Matt Byers ( before Wednesday, March 14. Passing the class will make you eligible to referee the U-12 division.
  • Referees: AYSO has a National Games tournament every two years (this year is in Knoxville, TN).  The experience of working with other referees from other Regions across the country is a great experience.   Please contact Matt Byers ( if you are interested.
  1. Concerned Citizens and Parents:
    • Want to help us get to the new fields at Hite Road? We are seeking a fundraising coordinator. Please contact a board member at: Thank you to select local businesses and individuals who have made tax-deductible donations.  More JCYSL Spirit Days will be coming!
    • We are seeking a donation of gravel to smooth out our Jefferson Avenue entrance and exit. Please contact our Field Director.
    • Be a part of the AYSO Experience by volunteering today! Upon approval, coaches get to select practice times and referees get to select games, giving you flexibility in your family schedules. And we provide free AYSO Continuous Education as listed above.
