Week 1: Opening Day Games Checklist

  • Game Schedules are now published at http://www.jcysl.org/game-schedules/
  • Opening Day (Sept 8th) “Team Spirit / Team Banner” Program Change:
    • Prizes awarded for Best Team Banner and Best Team Spirit!
    • *CHANGE* Teams only need to show up 15 minutes (or more) before their game time to have their team spirit picture taken with their banner. Simply report to the Morgan’s Grove Pavilion to have your picture taken by our sponsor Lisa Kaye Photography. (Teams are NO LONGER required to arrive at 730am).
    • Team Parents (and coaches) should coordinate time to create a banner for their team – banners due on September 8th! Then keep them throughout the year for each game!
    • A guest from the DC United will appear!
    • Brown’s Tire is not only sponsoring the first game balls on opening day, but, you can get your own FREE MICHELIN SOCCER BALL by visiting their table at opening day and picking up a coupon for tire specials.  All vendors have water for all uniformed players.
    • Parks and Recreation will have the concession stand open.
    • Team Parents should have a snack schedule assignment for their team.
  • Team Sites by our national sponsor Shutterfly are available NOW and is a handy tool for coaches and parents to communicate and share pictures and schedules. Simply ask your coach to ACTIVATE the site (coaches should look for a “Shutterfly Activation Email”).
  • Keep JCYSL player costs down with….Yankee Candle Fundraisers – start selling now, sellers will turn in fundraiser packets on September 22 at the Morgan’s Grove fields.
  • Safety Checks:
    • Lightning/Thunder Policy: If you see lightning or hear thunder, please evacuate the fields and proceed to your car (do not stand at/near metal fencing). Only resume play 30 minutes after the most recent lightning or thunder.
    • Games are only officially cancelled by board members due to the actual field conditions. Stay up to date by signing up for alerts at: JCYSL Alert Subscription.
    • No hanging from any goals OR nets. Several of our goals needed repairs which is an extra cost for our non-profit league.
    • Bring water to practices and games.
    • No earrings – no exceptions.
    • Please remove any trash you or your team brings in.
    • No pets on the fields, even if they are cute.
    • No smoking in sight of the playing field.
  • For teams that practice in Shepherdstown: please do not park near the pavilion on these week days: September 3, 4, 10, 14, 17, 26 and October 3rd.  Parks and Recreation, our landlord, is hosting events during these days and will be posting No Parking and Rental signs, so please park in the lower lot.
